Our History

Habitat for Humanity International was established in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller in Americus GA. Now a worldwide organization with a primary headquarters located in Atlanta GA. In 1984, a few years after his presidency, President Jimmy Carter participated in a work trip to New York City to help build Habitat houses. The personal involvement of U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn provided a tremendous boost to the reputation of Habitat for Humanity International.

Griffin Area Habitat for Humanity (GAHFH) was founded in 1989 by Dr. Bill Day and members of First Presbyterian Church in Griffin with the first house built in 1990.  Solely operating in Spalding County, Georgia located within Metro-Atlanta's 28-county Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), GAHFH has partnered with over 60 families in building and rehabilitating homes in the Griffin area.

About Us

Griffin Area Habitat for Humanity (GAHFH) is an independent, non-profit 501c3 affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, managed by Executive Director Mark Staples and governed by its local Board of Directors. We build and repair homes and sell them to qualified families at no profit. We are community builders, joining hard-working families in need of decent, affordable housing with dedicated volunteers and donors to ensure that every neighbor has a safe, decent place to live.
